AW12 has landed... and its going to be a hoot!

Received my People Tree AW12 lookbook today and i'm very excited to see they've done another fantastic collaboration with the surface pattern design legend that is Orla Kiely!
I've already succumbed to the 50s style Squirel print frock...

...but the Owl print by Orla Kiely is just too  awesome to pass up!

Flicking through some of my fav retailers, I'm definitly feeling a British animal trend emerging... check out the Joules new homewears section for some grown up Pony love.

Marimekko seem to be leading this theme with their 'Off to the woods' AW12 range, check out their AW12 lookbook here:  http://www.e-julkaisu.fi/marimekko/Marimekko_autumn_news_2012/

Thinking all things woodland animal inspired, last winter I found the fab knitwear designer Kate Davies! She is the creator of the beautiful knitwear pattern "O w l s"

......Kate if your reading,  I dig your work, but still haven't finished knitting my sweater... help!!!

Have an awesome day y'all,

Around the Corner - Blaqua

Good day fellow Pattern Lovers :-)

Some amazing shirts and patterns in Blaqua on Newburgh Street, London.

I've been searching for information on the designers with no luck but that doesn't stop us loving these masterpieces. Once you visit the website you will see that we're not alone. Aparently the modfather himself has graced the wooden floorboards of Blaqua! Yes! Have a look yourself  at some of the wonderful patterns and clothing that adorn the rails.

This, of course, inspired a listening to Paul Weller and also the discovery that you can embed Spotify on your blog/website..... :-)

Have a great elevenses.

Plantlife Series 004

Hellooo.

No.004 in the Plantlife Series are all blue hues.

Top left: Even I know this one Cornflower! Yay. Centaurea cyanus (Cornflower, Bachelors button, Bluebottle, Boutonniere flower, Hurtsickle, Cyani flower) Wikipedia

Lower left: Nigella damascena (love-in-a-mist, ragged lady) again thanks Wikepidia

Lower Right: I can't pin this one down, although I think it could be some kind of Geranium Blue, however I could be way off with that. Please, I welcome being corrected. :-)

and Top Right, I have no idea! After much scanning of many websites and even using reverse google image search no luck.

Have a great day. LTS. :-D

Around the Corner - More Oliver Bonas

Hello. Hope you're well?

Yes we're back at Oliver Bonas. Well the window display was just so good! I've another post for this window front to come so look out for that one coming up. We're all about the black and white prints this time though.

Top of the photos we're looking at a fabric called 'Abstract Trees' exclusive to Oliver Bonas that's applied to bags, credit card holders, iphone covers even dresses. I like it, it's bold and strong. I would love to be able to tell you who created the artwork for it but there's no details on the website, which is a shame, credit where credit is due. If you happen to know drop us a comment. :-)

Next, which I love! is Bird on a Wire by Poem. Great pattern, nothing, I assume, to do with the Bird On THE Wire song by Leonard Cohen... we hope. I can't find much out about the people Poem, which again is a shame. I want to know who designed these patterns.

The lower print, a bit like a dandelion, we reckon, again nothing about this dress or the designer but a great Motif.

Bye - LTS :-)

Plantlife Series 003

Glorious sunny day in London :-)

Hope it's nice where you are?

Here's some more plant and flower inspiration from around the streets.

Bottom Left - Echinacea purpurea (Eastern purple coneflower or Purple coneflower)
Echinacea used as a herbal remedy see the Wikipedia page for more details.

Bottom Right - Common Poppy seed head

The top two, well as usual my limited knowledge of flowers comes up short, but the bee buzzing around covered in pollen seemed to like the top left one. I don't think I've ever seen a bee so blissed out! If anyone is a naturaly gifted at plant identification please drop us a comment to share the names with everyone.

Have a great weekend - LTS

Print & Pattern

Yeeeeeah! :-D

A very Big Thank You to Print & Pattern and Rachel Taylor Art & Business of Surface Pattern Design for featuring one of Love This Shows designs,
part of the Speak Out Collection on Print & Pattern blogspot.
As a big fan of the Print & Pattern books and blog it's a huge honor to be featured.

Bob Wolf has been illustrating and animating for many years, you can find his web presence on the links below. Bob took the plunge into Surface Pattern Design earlier this year following Rachel Taylor's fantastic E-course The Art & Business of Surface Pattern Design.  The first 2 (of 3) modules of the course have been an amazing experience, and inspired Bob to pursue Surface Pattern Design in it's own right. Later this month will see the launch of Love This Show website dedicated to Surface Pattern Design work, until then please continue to follow our journey on the Love This Show Evelenses blog where we will be sharing some of our sources of inspiration along the way.

For examples of Bob Wolf's design work you can find his web presence below:

Congratulations to all our fellow Module 2 graduates and thanks for all your support and encouragement throughout the course.
Cheers again to the great folks at Print & Pattern, Rachel Taylor Designs & Do What You Love For Life!

Have an awesome day : )

More plant inspiration from around the streets.

I'm no botanist but I did try to track down the names of these and managed to find 2 of them...

Top left - Achillea millefolium 'Terra Cotta' (Yarrow)
Bottom left - Nicandra physalodes (shoo-fly plant)

but as for the others, I had no luck, if any one knows please let us know in the comments section :-)

Thanks - LTS

Around the Corner - Oliver Bonas

Hello all :-)

Following on from yesterdays post on Oliver Bonas window display, here's another look at some of the cool patterns on show.
Firstly the super bold Wheat Straw Sphere Vase

Secondly the Colors of Provence book by Michel Biehn full of recipes and home decorations from France.
The bright sunshine yellow Vila Sandra New Dress in the background by Vila Clothes who are featuring a new campaign video of catwalk models falling over... which is definitely worth a watch.

And lastly the wonderfully bright quilt/blanket that I can't seem to find any information on... so if anyone knows anything about it let us know.

Around the Corner - Libertys Nike display

The Liberty's window is aglow with neon!

Personally there is a little place in my heart for day glow colours, as I grew up with some very fetching toweling socks that were visible from the other side of the playground & mixed with reckless abandonment betwixt orange, yellow and green regardless of left or right order... Anyway...

This is the creation of Soho consultancy Hotel Creative who are responsible for the instillation inside Liberty too. If your in London you should check it out, it's most impressive, if not have a goosey at there website for some nice high res pictures of it and the Nike Flyknit range.

As much as I can appreciate the whole display it's really the Pattern that interests me the most (Sorry Hotel Creative) Namely the Liberty Print Lotus Jazz fabric. Apparently a reworking of an original print from 1965. I've been searching to try and find out who the original designer was and what it looked like back in '65 but It's not proving a simple task. I'll keep on looking, in the meantime if you have time have a peek on the Liberty site and also Hotel Creative, their Tumblr is worth a rummage through too, although don't blame me for what you find on there...

If anyone has any info on the 1965 Print, Lotus Jazz please let us know, we'd love to see some images of it from back through the mists of time :-)

Have a very bright neon day - LTS

Tile Design -Guadi at Parc Guell, Barcelona

Beautiful tiles from Guadi at the epic Parc Guell - Barcelona.

If you love tile design then i highly recommend visiting Parc Guell:
I found the whole of Barcelona hugely inspiring, just flicking through my old photo's always triggers a new idea!

I just love the vibrant colours, the way you can see the brush strokes in the paint work, details in each fraction of the tiles!
Can't wait to see what Kuler makes of the colour pallettes - will post the results tomorrow!

Check back tomorrow for more on tile design features :)

Have a splendid evening

Around the Corner - Pip Studio Miss Blackbirdy

These awesome plates and other tablewares are the products of Pip Studio and are called Miss Blackbirdy! These shots were taken in Selfridges but a little scout around on the interweb reveled they're available here and there, LibertiesAmara and the like also Pips own website has a variety of goodies for sale too. Although I didn't get a photo of them I especially like the black plates on the Amara site, so unusual.

Pip's real name is actually Catharina, but for the life of me I can't find out her surname... but i did find out that she has a love bird called Tjommy and he can say his own name! :-D From the write up's on her web site she sounds like an excellent designer with a wonderful work ethic and her motto is ‘Happy products for Happy People’ I urge you to have a read and look through her site. It's full of lovely looking things that will leave you wanting to own more a few, I know I want some!

Do any of you own any of these pieces? Send us a photo (in use...?) and we'll feature it on the blog.

Hope that you're all well - LTS

Around the Corner - Rosie Lovelock

An amazing collection of frocks, not to mention a fab window display that really caught my eye as I was passing Oasis on Argyle Street in Soho the other day.

This superb artwork is the work of the very talented illustrator Rosie Lovelock. You should check out her website and send her messages of joy to celebrate her skillz ;-) Her range was created after being approached by Oasis whilst selling her coolness on Brick Lane market, which just goes to show that doing your own thing will lead you to even more awesomeness!

Well done Rosie, we look forward to seeing lots more of your designs in the future.

Have a mucho grando day - LTS ^_^

Tile designs

I love tile designs! Here's a few pics of my fav tile designs we found along our travels in Lanzarote.
Mural design at Cesar Manrique Foundation Lazarote: well worth a visit!

Most beautiful walls in Lanzarote!

The colours are so striking and complements the green of the cacti perfectly!

Cesar Manrique had a huge influence on the architecture of Lanzarote and even worked with the governement to ensure the islands tradition of white washed single story buildings is maintained.

Island architecture - all the houses doors are colour coded, blue if you earn your keep from the Sea, Green if you earn from the Land - cool, huh? Although, what colour is for artists....?

Nice gates! Love the C M initials.
